Best Books For SSC- Combined Graduate Level Exam 2014

The Commission holds SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination, for recruitment to different posts for which a Graduation from a recognized University is the minimum requirement.


The Examination will be conducted in three tiers as indicated below:
  • Tier -I -- Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -II -- Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -III -- Personality Test /Interview/Computer Proficiency Test or Skill Test
TIER I
  • Tier –I exam consist of only one paper that would be common for all categories of posts and will be held in one session.Tier 1 consists of 4 sections of 50 marks each. Time duration is 2 hours.(2hours 40 minutes for PH candidates). 
  • 1- General intelligence & Reasoning
  • 2- General Awareness
  • 3- Numerical Aptitude
  • 4- English Comprehension

1 -Numerical Aptitude- Quantum Cat by Sarvesh sharma is by far the best book for preparing numerical aptitude though many students also prefer Arun sharma or R.S Aggarwal. 



2 - English comprehension - Compulsory English is hands down the best book for preparing English for any competitive examination. For grammar you can refer to Wren & Martin.



3 - General intelligence & reasoning. - R.S Aggarwal's book for reasoning is more than sufficient for reasoning section. "A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non verbal reasoning" is bulky book with lots of questions for practice.



4 - General Awareness- General Awareness has two parts- static and current affairs. For static portion Lucent's GK is good book to start with.
